| Artist, Joline El-Hai creates these decorative lights by beginning with a vibrant pastel and colored pencil drawings, photographically reproduced onto durable, translucent, heat and light-resistant plastic film. Each artwork is housed in a fanciful hand-textured copper frame, illuminated by a bulb, in various forms such as luminettes, tri-corner lanterns or the swan neck lamps. This line of magical lights is made in her friendly Seattle workshop. Solidly fabricated, each piece is built to last. As a child Joline would sit on her back porch in the late afternoon sun, sewing sequins onto scraps of black velvet. The effect of the dramatic light and glowing colors fascinated her, and it is this love of color and light that still inspires her artwork. The imagery in her work can be seen as whimsical little snippets of magical dream-like stories. |
