| In 1995, Courtney and Aryn Kern met in Ely, MN and have been together ever since. The couple moved to Duluth in 1998 to finish college at UMD and later married. Courtney and Aryn knew they had something special when they realized how much they enjoy working together. The couple combined Courtney’s woodworking skills with Aryn’s artistic eye to create Longshadow Woodworks in 2006.
Having several years of experience as a professional woodworker, Courtney realized the value that remained in wood manufacturing cast offs. Aryn took the next step combining both aesthetic and practical applications by "reclaiming these 'waste' woods, and creating beautiful and functional handmade wood products."
Each piece of wood is hand selected for its grain and character and is then laminated, planed, shaped, sanded, and finished. Since reclaimed hardwoods are used, each piece is unique.
"In our work, we strive to combine beauty and function while doing our part to use our natural resources wisely."
