| Randy and Ronda Dougherty have been creating, working and soul searching together for the past 26 years. Their energy for the past 6 years has been focused on creating and furthering their knowledge of glass. Randy enjoys the experimenting and technical process, while Ronda prefers to push the creative limits of Randy's experiments. Their sculptural glass pieces are created by stacking several sheets of clear fusible glass together. We then enamel the glass using chemical mixtures developed by Randy over a four year period. He has developed a pallet of 84 colors each with it's own recipe and pending patent. The chemicals are applied to the top sheet of the glass and when it's dry, we load the glass into the kiln and fire it at temperatures above 2000 degrees. The glass will be soaked at several different temperatures and annealed during the cooling stage. When the kiln has cooled to room temperature we remove the glass and begin designing a metal stand. The steel is then cut and welded together according to the plans. We then combine glass and metal to complete their unique sculptures. |
