| Since Steven McGovney and Tammy Camarot have been married, they have created a body of artwork that draws on each other's strengths. His sculpture and ceramic background provides reference for the three-dimensional and technical side, while her intuitive sense of pattern helps design the two-dimensional surfaces.
McGovney designs and slip casts each piece in low-fire white clay, hand finishing it with pulled spouts, handles and sculptural additions. After the first firing, Camarot gains control, painting underglaze colors and delicately scribing highlights. Fired again, the piece is dipped in clear glaze and sent to the kiln one last time.
Each piece is a limited production. Steven says “The creative sum is greater than the parts — our work is the best of both of us."
